How does the school encourage good attendance and punctuality?
Attendance at St Ann's is better than the national average. Pupils with the best record of punctuality and attendance are rewarded with certificates.
Who pays to maintain the school buildings?
Parents are asked to contribute £30 per child to a fund towards maintenance. Additional funds are raised by school governors and a St Ann's belongs to a maintenance scheme.
Do the pupils participate in visits and trips?
The school values trips as an important tool for learning and as a treat for the children. Examples of school visits include museums, live arts performances, galleries and parks.
How does the school look after the children's health?
We are visited by a school nurse, dentist and an optician. Visitors also educate the children on topics such as drug awareness and safe cycling.
Do the children learn about faiths other than Christianity?
Yes, the RE curriculum includes learning about other faiths, including talks by visitors and visits to various places of worship.
Is the school linked to St Ann's Church?
There are strong links between the school and the church the vicar is a school governor. The monthly Praise Assembly is held in the church and many pupils attend the church youth group.
What level of help is available for pupils with special educational needs (SEN)?
Like many Haringey schools, St Ann's has a number of pupils with SEN. There are members of staff dedicated to assisting these pupils, as well as resources such as computer programmes, counselling and additional help in areas such as speech, behaviour, literacy etc. Parents of these pupils are invited to attend regular review meetings.
What sort of activities are the PTA involved with?
The PTA organises school events such as the Christmas and Summer Fairs. Money raised is used to improve the school. The PTA is also involved with events such as preparing multi-ethnic food for Black History Week.
Does the school provide teacher-training opportunities?
St Ann's collaborates with other local schools to provide good quality training placements. Trainees have been recruited by the school as NQTs.
What is the peer mediation project?
The project trains children in conflict resolution. The project has won nationwide interest and acclaim and is being adopted by other schools with help from St Ann's-appointed trainers. The project is useful as anti-bullying training for young people.
Does the school encourage extra-curricular activities and clubs?
A wide range of activities are available. Examples include: art, crafts, music, cooking, drama, a variety of sports, debating, chess, games, drugs education, cycling proficiency, dancing and many more.
What is the Comenius European Partnership?
St Ann's had links with schools in european Countries. Children exchanged letters and learnt about each other, including their national dances!
